How to choose a Feng Shui Guru
There are many Feng Shui masters and consultants within the industry and for your peace of mind; you should ask a few questions so that you have knowledge of their experience levels as well as the type of feng shui they practice. Below are a few questions to guide your enquiries.
It is important that you find someone who can work with your situation and can genuinely help you. As the feng shui consultation process can be quite personal, it is recommended that you find someone who you can be comfortable with and can share your details with in confidence.
As mentioned in my Types of Feng Shui section, there are different schools of feng shui and although they are all very good, ensure you are fully aware of what schools of thought your consultant uses and that it fits with your needs.
1. What type/s of feng shui do you practice?
This can be Form, Black Hat, 8 House, Compass, Flying Stars (Time Space)
2. What type of compass do you use?
A Luopan compass is the main compass used, although some consultants may use other main stream or digital compasses to compliment their analysis.
3. What does your consultation entail?
It could involve 1 or more visits, assessment of property, drawing up of feng shui chart, recommendations for property and occupants etc
4. Are you a member of any industry organizations?
This will help to assure you of the consultants' standing in the industry.
5. How long have you been practicing Feng Shui?
The length of time that a consultant has practiced can vary, however it will be up to you as to what you are comfortable with. The longer a consultant has been practicing the higher their fees may be due to their experience.
6. Do you still study feng shui and if so who from?
Study of feng shui takes more than a lifetime of learning; therefore it should be done on a continuous basis. The most reputable teacher would be a Feng Shui Master or their recognized students who have attained a level to teach others.
7. When was the last time you attended a feng shui course of study?
All genuine consultants continue to attend courses with their masters or teachers, as it not only gives an opportunity to revise or learn new theories, it will provide the chance for industry professionals to network and provide support for each other.
8. What post consultation support does the consultant offer?
This can be reports, free support for a certain time etc.
